It’s been a few months now since your new morning has started.
The firsts results are here, more or less good depending on the economic situation and the quality of your morning.
To develop or perform, have you respected the 5 golden rules for a new morning?
A little reminder here!
1/ The right hosts on the right radio !
A few years ago when we set up a morning, the content was quite classic: TV program, horoscope, movie outings, ephemeris… No need to have real natural exchanges between hosts. That’s all over now!
Today, we want hosts who talk about their lives and who have things to say to each other. So they need to be friendly with each other. There’s nothing worse than a duo that is not an accomplice!
Your hosts must also be natural, true, empathetic, committed and funny! Who wants to wake up with boring people? No one !
They must also embody your brand in spirit and image. This helps your listener understand what they will find in you.
Finally, your hosts must master the mechanics of radio: welcoming, set up the show, teasing. At the start of a show, they are even more essential.
2/ A current and relevant content for the target
Your obsession is to constantly think about your listener: how he lives, how he breathes, what he likes, what he hates, … Study it!
During a soccer game, the players know them exactly. It’s the same thing in radio: you have to know everything about the person listening to you!
Your content must also be up to date. Avoid everything that your listener can quickly get through his smartphone: horoscopes, TV, movie shows…
Think about content that will highlight the personalities of your hosts and that they can have fun with: entertainment and daily life are strong levers!
Most radio stations deal with funny facts of the daily life : it’s the way in which you take this information and the reactions you get to it that will make the difference! Be very vigilant about this. Always look for the extra idea!
3/ Short and trendy jingles and promotions
Marketing and packaging haven’t changed a lot in radio in recent years, unlike what is done on the Internet for example. Get inspired by it! Renew yourself!
For me, short and effective are the most important words!
Of course, a good jingle is always pleasant to listen to. It will more identify your show, but there is little chance that it will keep your listeners tuned in.
The rapidity of the dressing should not prevent the show from getting in the mood and shining.
To make it trendy, use current sounds: the latest tracks of the biggest pop artists have inspiring sounds! Also look at what’s being done in the series and on social networks.
Whatever you do, never forget to name the radio staitons in any piece of clothing: it’s a sword in the water.
4/ A game to communicate and attract your listener
At a newsstand, a sports fan will run to The Team or to a magazine that puts his or her favourite sport on the cover. In radio, it’s similar: your appealing product must be simple and clear to be spotted! A big gift to be won, with a game rule that is very understandable and accessible to as many people as possible.
Invoices paid, rents refunded, salaries doubled, cash… These are concrete and attractive prizes for your listener.
Once this game is set up, add a big communication campaign to it if possible, but that’s not all! Your entire antenna must claim this game in a massive and creative way!
5/ Intelligent communication on social networks
Nowadays, do you rather remember a billboard seen on the street or content seen on social networks? Personally, the 2nd answer…
Social networks are a great tool for direct communication with your listener and moreover allow you to target them! Don’t neglect them by entrusting them to anyone.
A real community manager who has been trained for that will bring a lot to your show. You need someone creative to both bounce off your on-air content and create your own content that will develop your brand and image.
Too many radio stations just film a segment or post the topics covered in their show: be different and creative! That’s how you’ll stand out from the crowd and appear in the news feeds.
Never forget that you need to engage your listeners on your social networks. The more engaged they are, the more they will see you, the more loyal and fans they will be!
To sum up: good personalities in the right place with fresh and up-to-date content, an attractive show and a nice gift package will ensure that your show will have the right basis!
The morning show is the main image of any music station: spend a lot of time working on it to make it as clear, effective, relevant and attractive as possible. It will inevitably bring up the rest of your radio station!
